The Commons.  What are the commons?  Should they be placed into private hands?  Should they be commoditized and sold for profit?  What are the many ways large corporations fence in the commons for private gain?  The Alliance is doing groundbreaking work, examining and tackling this issue.  Check out the "Tapestry of the Commons" and "Water is Life" projects below.  You can work with the Alliance to bring these campaigns to your own community.

Past Project: We Decide, Not Wal-Mart-- The Community Values Ordinance PDF Print E-mail

Corporate Personhood prevented city from considering passage of a big box store "report card" ordinance.

The Community Values Ordinance would have created a "report card" to evaluate stores like Wal-Mart against our community's values before granting a license to do business in our community-- values like environmental stewardship, respect for union rights, and paying a living wage.
