Testifying at the Washington Public Disclosure Commission |

Alliance Members Testify
before the Washington Public Disclosure Commission about
Money in Campaigns
and the Corruption of Public Policy
The Washington Public Disclosure Commission performed a great public service last fall by holding hearings on how Washington could change its laws regarding contributions and independent expenditures during campaigns by corporations, PACs, and unions. The PDC held hearings on the issue on Oct. 31 and Nov. 30, 2006. The Alliance was there to provide testimony.
At the first hearing, local activists testified about how corporate money corrupts the political process and subverts democracy and they provided ideas for enhancing democracy with certain suggested changes.
At the second hearing, AfD's local president testified. AfD educated about constitutional level problems that block effective
campaign finance reform, but gave recommendations as to the maximum
that could be done to democratize campaigns within the current limits
set by the Supreme Court.

Political Party Platforms to
Abolish Corporate Personhood
A few of our members were instrumental in the Washington Democrats passage of a 2004 platform plank to Abolish Corporate Personhood! Read it here: Washington Democratic Platform.
We hope it is simply a matter of time and being educated before other parties in Washington and elsewhere will follow.
